The learning curve

In this article we would like to touch on the topic of learning 3d modeling oriented towards jewelry production.

Learning process is an individual activity which takes place in a specific context.  It is the result of cognitive processes through which new information is internalized, thus constructing new mental and functional representations which will then be applied.

Change is the law of life.

Change before you have to.

In the present when changes are irrevocable and increasingly accelerated than, say,  50 years ago, learning has become substantially different from  what it used to be, when upon mastering a technique or tool one could be sure that it would last a great deal of their professional life.

To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.

Nowadays, the most valuable skill for a professional, in addition to their ability to learn, is their capability to adapt, change, re-train or sometimes reinvent.  It is vital to pay attention to technological changes and not to be afraid to start new software from scratch. In 3d design the dexterity acquired previously may not matter much at least if we want to continue being useful.

Experience is an enhancer of change.

It is undeniable, that having to change the way you work relatively often generates certain uneasiness, but it is the only way to stay up-to-date professionally and maintain employability. In addition, as we have already mentioned in other articles, learning curve can be difficult, and only offers results to its loyal followers who do not depart from it.

Take individual set of skills and character traits into account.

Although there are obvious common patterns, we believe that it is truly a very personal experience, as it is stated by professionals in the field of teaching techniques, there is no single way to acquire knowledge since not all people are equal. The more personalized your training is, the better fruit it will bear.

Is there an ideal way to learn?

It is also advisable to access as many various professionals as possible. Each of them, even teaching the same techniques, probably applies a different approach enriching us with variety of ways how to achieve results.

We are not all against self-education; on the contrary, we believe it’s critical to know how to develop a deeper approach to selfeducation, since it’s a basis for our development. We always insist on investing in up-to-date ideas or techniques, since overcoming drawbacks of the obsolete methods is the only way to maintaining high quality.

In other articles we elaborated the importance of having knowledge in what refers to manufacture, characteristics and behavior of metals, stones, enamels, and welds. Among other benefits it will give us a realistic vision when creating a 3d design. Also the knowledge of the limits and characteristics of the 3d printers most frequently used today in jewelry and their printing materials are what we consider “the basic cocktail” if we want to provide stores or factories with functional and technically correct pieces of jewelry so that their manufacture could be the best possible.

It is even better to go further and ask the client to inform us about his methods of manufacturing, human recourses and technology available to him, in order to offer him a 3d modelling appropriate to his production methods so that both quality and costs/speed have more chances of success in their target market.

As years go by and techniques change, we are becoming more capable of comprehending the greatness of the Japanese concept originally created at the times of war. Kaizen – “Continuous Improvement» is the name of a quality management method well known in the world of business.

The process of continuous improvement based on concrete actions is a mental attitude and also a great contribution to self-development and efficiency.

In 3d customjewel.com we believe in this learning curve and continuous improvement, sincerely hoping to motivate those who have read us, wishing them a future of great projects and success.
