Talking about art is a task that is only well-regarded if it comes from those teachers who have left their mark in history, or secondly if it comes from great professional critics, but perhaps all of us who try to experience art (at our different levels of development) are part of it and should therefore express our feelings.
We believe that evolution is possible only from self-criticism and reinvention, and undoubtedly it is sometimes necessary to question things and also question oneself.
From this standpoint, we dare to do this article. Just as living languages are nourished by the changes produced in every field in which they are used, we consider this art is also nourished, and therefore, an opinion is part of the evolution itself, whether erroneous or not.
Art is an expression, neither more nor less, and according to experts: “art is the set of disciplines or productions of human beings made for aesthetic or expressive purposes to represent, through media such as painting, sculpture, architecture, literature or music, different realities and awaken a series of ideas, emotions or feelings. ”
It has been divided into six major branches depending on the discipline. Art requires different languages and means: for painting the means are shapes and colors; for sculpture volumes and forms; for architecture, forms and space; for literature, words, for music, sounds, and for dance, fundamentally movement and body expression.
As the twentieth century unfolded moving pictures become attributed to being the seventh form of art.
Shouldn’t goldsmith be considered the eighth form of art?
its trajectory is very long and it begins with the first artistic expressions of prehistory; with its first shell or flower necklaces, with its first attempts to embellish women or personalize men.
Jewelry design has had many influences throughout history, and those influences in such variety, that it is difficult to name something that has not influenced this art.
From the Egg of the Kremlin, by Faberge and dating from 1906, with its power to move the local architectural beauty and captivate the Tsars of Russia, to the most modern trends of German jewelry, everything is absolutely part of that development.
We have more questions than answers …
Contemporary art has a nature of breaking with the old canons of the so-called “Fine Arts”. The need for profitability might work against subtracting the aesthetic and artistic value in the development of good jewelry.
Is this the best we can do?
Everyone knows a lot of works at the best museums on the planet that alienate conservative critics for their detachment to balance, beauty and technique of the so-called old “traditional schools of fine arts” ….. we should then take a step back and re-evaluate our artistic concepts on which we rely when developing the eighth art.
Is it the speed of the market that only allows large firms to develop on an artistic level? or perhaps is it the pursue of popular taste that does not collaborate precisely with this development?
